I don't know what took me so long to do this, but I finally welded together a sturdy cart to transport my home foundry as a unit. Sadly, the garbage can furnace is no longer with us, so this is currently the only foundry setup I have. There are a lot of accesories that I can add to this cart, like verticle racks for hand tools etc. and I'll probably do that in the future.
CAUTION! The welding pictures shown here were taken with a camera using an automatic timer (the camera works by itself). I do not suggest a live photographer taking pictures of this sort. |
Here I am joyfully welding together the frame for the cart. None of this welding would be possible if it weren't for the simple to read welding how-to book; Arc Welding. I taught myself to arc weld with this book. |

Here I'm continuing to arc weld the frame. All of the metal was from scrap. The angle iron was from a discarded bedframe and the rest was scrap steel pipe, re-bar and slightly bent threaded rod. |
|
In this picture I'm welding the front axle supports. Notice my control of the electrode... See the cart that the welding machine is on...I built that as a practice welding project. |
|
Okay here is the cart with all the welding done. It is very sturdy. But the front steering isn't exactly as nice as I wanted it. The back wheels are from a discarded lawn mower and the front whele were from the cart that originally held the garbage can furnace. |

Here is the cart with the plywood base installed. Nice looking, and the plywood is reused scrap of course. |
|
Here is the finished cart with foundry in place. Notice the flowerpot crucible furnace on it. |
